Northern issues Saturday do not travel advice for Cumbrian Coast

A TRAIN operator has cancelled all of its services on the Cumbrian Coastline after it warned the current situation with Covid positive and isolating staff had ‘worsened’. Northern has asked customers on the Cumbrian Coastline not to travel on Saturday (July 3) as the rail operator continues to feel the impact of coronavirus. On Thursday, Northern announced delays and short notice cancellations were expected this weekend after many conductors and drivers were either diagnosed with COVID-19 or asked to self-isolate following Track and Trace notifications. Many of the affected staff are based in Barrow and Workington, and the rail operator reported today (July 2) that the situation had worsened, leading Northern to cancel all Saturday services on the Cumbrian Coastline.

Plans to reduce workforce car numbers entering Sellafield

Plans to reduce workforce car numbers entering Sellafield 11/03/2021 Sellafield has committed itself to “ambitious” targets on promoting sustainable travel, including a focus on encouraging a reduction in car use by its workforce. The latest version of Sellafield’s Travel Plan outlines a number of goals the firm is aiming for in the coming years, including a target to reduce the number of vehicles entering the site each day from more than 6,000 to as low as 4,000. The plan has been shared with Cumbria County Council, and its local committee for Copeland, made up of county councillors representing the area, considered the proposals at its meeting last week.
