A MURDER investigation into the death of a one-year-old boy is still ongoing, police have said. A man, 34, and woman, 37, both from Barrow, were arrested on suspicion of murder, causing and allowing the death of a child, two counts of assault/ill treatment/neglect/abandon a child/young person to cause unnecessary injury remain on bail. The arrests followed the death of little Leiland Corkill who died the day after being taken to hospital with a head injury. Police revealed that the tot, originally from Whitehaven, was in care and on the pathway to being adopted. He was still under the care of Cumbria County Council s social services team at the time of his death despite being placed with approved adopters.
THE investigation into the death of a one-year-old at the centre of a murder probe remains ongoing, police have confirmed. The tragic events unfolded on January 6, when police received a report from the ambulance service regarding an incident at a Barrow property. The child was transferred to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital from Furness General Hospital for specialist medical care due to his critical condition. Sadly, the young boy passed away the next day. The Sun newspaper named the one-year-old as Leiland Corkill and said that the boy was taken from his birth mum Laura at only 48 hours old and placed into the care of Cumbria Social Services.
