Fresh start at Carlisle Newtown Primary School post-lockdown

Staff at a Carlisle school are now reflecting on their efforts in delivering remote learning. Newtown Primary School pupils and staff went from little familiarity with Microsoft Teams in October to delivering online live sessions, sharing their screens, using breakout rooms and setting up file stores and assignments. Acting Headteacher Marie Jamieson said: “‘It really has been amazing to achieve all this in such a short space of time. “All children who did not have access to devices were given new laptops to use and they were supported to access free internet services when needed. This allowed staff to be able to deliver live lessons daily and they were really well received.”

Caldew Lea Primary staff describe how they got through lockdown

Caldew Lea Primary School have described how they got through the various lockdowns over the past year throguh unity, investment and technology. Providing the best education for our children is always our first priority, never more so than during the school lockdowns. Since last March, Caldew Lea and Cumbria Education Trust (CET) have adapted and improved our remote learning provision, taking our delivery online with live lessons in real time, providing instant support and engagement with our children. To do this successfully, the trust committed to invest in more than 1,000 laptops for pupils to use, providing accessible technology for those that needed it. Additionally, CET’s IT specialists spent countless hours making sure the laptops were downloaded with suitable programs to help pupils in lessons.
