The main event on Cumberland County’s primary election ballot is the battle for an open judgeship in the county courts.
Two attorneys are seeking the bench seat currently occupied by Judge Tom Placey, who is battling a judicial misconduct case and opted against seeking a new 10-year term.
Placey has been charged with improper conduct in five cases in which, as the presiding judge, he lost his temper and berated litigants and attorneys. The judge, in his defense, has argued that his outbursts may were attributable to the effects of concussions that he suffered while playing college sports.
