CUMBERLAND – Few places make someone feel more alone than descending into the abyss of a dark river and feeling around for something.
Members of the Cumberland Water Rescue and Recovery Team, now training new members and boasting new equipment, say the experience of diving to retrieve lost items is sometimes terrifying but can be addictive.
The team, first formed in May of 2000, has recently received several donations to upgrade equipment to be safer and more efficient. They showed off that equipment in the pool of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island last week.

Mutter: I’ve learned that bottom line isn’t everything
The Breeze asked some area leaders three questions as this tumultuous year of 2020 winds down. Here are the ones posed to Cumberland Mayor Jeff Mutter and his written answers.
What have you learned most about your community in 2020?
I have learned they are tough. They are kind. They are opinionated. They are resourceful. They are generous. They are patient.
These are things I already knew, but during this very difficult year this community has really shown what it is made of. Time and time again they supported members of the community who are less fortunate. They supported our small businesses and restaurants. The community was gracious and understanding when conducting business at Town Hall, which was different than what they had known in the past. They showed great patience and perseverance.
