LEADING THE SCIENCE REVOLUTION: Dr. Franchi The Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) is leading the first African network of higher education institutions in Planetary and Space Science. The project titled “Pan-Africa Planetary and Space Science Network” is funded to the tune of 1.4 million euros by the European Commission through the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) under the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme. The project is led by Dr. Fulvio Franchi in collaboration with Professor Gizaw Mengistu Tsidu, from the Department of Earth and Environmental Science, and Professor Gregory Hillhouse, from the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Lithuania and Eight EU Member States Call for Protection of European Film Festivals VILNIUS: Lithuania’s Minister of Culture Simonas Kairys has teamed up with his counterparts from the Czech Republic, Estonia, Cyprus, Latvia, Poland, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia to appeal to European Union’s commissioners over the financing of individual film festivals, which may be left without funding. The appeal refers to a plan of the European Commission to base the overall budget of the Creative Europe programme 2021-2027 on new implementation measures, under which individual film festivals in Europe would only be financed through film festival networks and would not be able to make individual funding applications for projects administered by the European Commission’s Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency.

Cartoon Movie, the pitching event raising funds for animated feature films

Cartoon Movie is the world’s most important co-production and pitching forum for European animated feature films. It takes place in Bordeaux and this year 16 European countries overall took part. A total of 55 film projects were presented, with 21 from France and nine from Spain.
