The Cape Fear Civil War Round Table, Wilmington, will present Stephen R. Wise, Ph.D., discussing blockade running in the Civil War via Zoom at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8. The southern confederacy relied on imports from Europe for numerous commodities necessary to sustain their effort to secede from the union of the United States of America.
Wise, a native of Ohio who earned his Ph.D. in history from the University of South Carolina, is generally regarded as the foremost expert on blockade running. He is currently the director of the Parris Island Museum and Cultural Resources Manager for the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, and a professor at the Beaufort campus of the University of South Carolina.
