Book banning is again making headlines across the United States, a practice that first emerged in America back in 1650. While back then religion tended to be at the heart of most bans and censorship, that has shifted over time, with more bans resulting from a wider variety of topics.
Vol 82, No 6 (2021)
June
This month’s cover features a photograph of Kingman School student William R. Groves by photojournalist Jack Bradley. Bradley developed his talent as a combat photographer during the Korean War. After discharge, he worked for a Peoria television station as its first newsreel photographer before joining the
Peoria Journal Star newspaper in 1955.
The Special Collections Center at Bradley University’s Cullom-Davis Library holds more than 2,000 of Bradley’s images dating from 1955 to 1977 as part of the Jack Bradley Photojournalism Collection. The majority of images were shot for Sunday feature pages and focus on human interest subjects. Learn more about the collection at www.bradley.edu /academic/lib/departments/special/bradley.dot.
