Long before RTÉ s Operation Transformation, the Cullen and District Friends of the Handicapped was a phenomenon, helping a legion of followers to reduce health spending and encouraging a refreshingly new life style.
Experts warn that being overweight or obese has the capacity to decrease life expectancy. So, for the past 35 years, the Cullen organisers saw to it that those keen to keep new year resolutions had the opportunity to do so, helping participants to motivate themselves and take the plunge towards a healthier lifestyle. In the process they have shed more than 20 tonnes of weight while raising funds for worthy causes.
