Gunmen kill SSPDF soldier, injure Somali national in Lakes State
A road ambush by armed men in Cueibet county of South Sudan s Lakes State Sunday has left an SSPDF soldier dead and a Somali driver injured, police in Cuieibet have confirmed.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, police deputy commissioner in Cueibet Town colonel Machar Muorwel said the incident occurred in the Kabur William Deng Nhial area on Sunday. I am now in the remote village that is out of Cueibet Town. But I heard of that road ambushed which killed SSPDF soldier and a Somalian driver was wounded, he said.
The police officer said he has ordered patrols along the main road between Cueibet and Rumbek.
Calm returns to Cueibet county after deadly clashes
Officials in Cueibet County of Lakes State on Friday said calm had returned to the area after inter-communal clashes left 15 people dead and 17 with serious injuries.
On Wednesday, fighting erupted between Waat and Joth and joined by other sections of the Gok community in Mayath Payam. The clashes are said to have been triggered by the killing of a prison officer, Captain Makol Mathiang, who hailed from the Waat section on Tuesday evening.
The clashes also led to the displacement of families.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the police acting commissioner of Cueibet Town, Colonel Machar Muorwel said the town was now calm and fighting had stopped.
15 killed, 28 wounded in Cueibet clashes, security forces take sides
Police authorities in Cueibet County of Lakes State have said 15 people have been killed and 28 others wounded during inter-communal clashes between three sections of the Gok community comprising of Waat, Joth, and Ayiel.
The fighting between Waat and Joth which was joined by other sections of the Gok community was triggered by the killing of a prison officer, Captain Makol Mathiang, who hailed from the Waat section in Mayath Payam on Tuesday evening.
The acting commissioner of police in Cueibet Town, Colonel Machar Muorwel, told Radio Tamazuj that tension is still very high on the ground and there are no forces to rescue the situation.
