Virtual Africatown festival to celebrate female Clotilda survivors

Africatown’s 2021 Spirit of Our Ancestors Festival will shift to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and will put the spotlight on women who survived the voyage of the slave ship Clotilda, organizers have announced.
The festival normally is a gathering that features ceremonies to honor the Clotilda survivors who went on to found the unique Africatown community, and the ancestors who preserved its traditions and folkways for generations
That mission stays the same for the third annual event, which is scheduled for Feb. 13 with the theme “Women of Worth.” According to information recently released by organizers, presentations will be made via Zoom; connection details will be announced closer to the event date.
