Show Transcript MAVERICKS PLAY AT 8:00. THIS WEEK’S HOMETOWN HERO IS HOPING TO BE A PROFESSIONAL RACE CAR DRIVER, AS JASON KING EXPLAINS, HE IS WELL ON HIS WAY. EVAN SLATER OF PORTSMOUTH IS TURNING HEADS IN THE WORLD OF AMATUER RACING, THE 14-YEAR-OLD FRESHMAN AT PORTSMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL RACES FOR SPORT CAR CLUB OF AMERICA AND HAS BEEN WINNING UP AND DOWN THE EAST COAST. THE CAR I RACE IS CALLED A SPEC RACER FORD, A PURPOSE BUILT RACE CAR, 130 HORSE POWER, 1500 POUNDS. EVAN STARTED RACING GOKARTS AT THE AGE OF 7, HE SAYS THE TRANSITION TO HIS NEW ROAD CORSE CAR TOOK SOME WORK, BUT THE NEW SPEEDS DON’T BOTHER HIM AT ALL.
