Randall the fact that youre calling it the Cuban Embassy says everything. Later this morning the cuban flag will fly for the first time from this building in 54 years. Later this morning at the ceremony cubas foreign minister will be on hand. No one in that position has been here in take cased something the u. S. State department is calling historic. This comes since president obama in december announce add move to start normalizing relationships with cuba. This is being dubbed the cuban saw by some, and while certainly significant to have an embassy here, there has been a presence over the past decade,
Well be live in washington and havana. At least 28 people have been killed in a large explosion in turkey. Around 100 have been wounded. It happened north of the border in syria. Its not yet known what caused the blast but the Turkish Ministry said that its a kurdish attack. Its area is home to a refugee camp of 35,000 refugees freeing war. And there has been a clash on the syrian said of the border. That happened moments after the explosion in turkey. A kurdish official said that its not an isil attack. Now in the last hour the u. N. Security council has unanimously endorsed the iran nuclear deal. The members of the council along with germany have agreed to lift economic sanctions against iran. At this embassy now how long has that flagpole been waiting for the cuban colors to be raised . Its been five and a half weeks waiting to see the cuban flag raised in washington. Of course, people have been waiting for more than five decades since 1961 that the cuban flag was flown at the embassy, and that there was this kind of a presence. We have hundreds of people gathered at the embassy and we have a lot of people on the streets. Stephanie, its mostly the gathering of the of the of people pushing for the lifting of the embargo of the United States against cuba. Were not seeing a high presence of protesters. Long live raul, and long live fidel castro. But we saw one protester who was against the castro government. He was just arrested. He was covered in a red substance that was supposed to look like blood. It was a powder. The police were wearing gloves as they handled him. They were working to get him away from this site.
