Man who stole iPhone and wallet from on-duty Longford garda to pay compensation to charity

A man who stole an iPhone and a wallet from a garda vehicle while gardaí were carrying out an arrest has been ordered to pay any outstanding money owed from the incident to St Christopher’s services.
Patrick McNally, 89 Spring Lawns, Longford, appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes at last week’s sitting of Longford District Court.
Sgt Gerry Newton explained that, while gardaí were effecting an arrest of two unrelated suspects in the Spring Lawn estate on October 19, 2021, a wallet containing an iPhone 8 and a number of personal items belonging to a garda was taken from the front of the garda van.

And Rachel Allen has discussed for the first time how her fame affected her son Joshua, 21, who was given a 30-month prison sentence for drugs charges.
Speaking to the Irish Daily Mirror, she revealed: I didn’t do anything like that to break the law, but I was able to grow up privately. And so you know what.. it is hard. But Darina has still defended running the classes, saying she felt a strong responsibility towards the students who had arrived in Ireland in late December for two weeks of quarantine. They had travelled long distances. Some have taken three-month career breaks. We felt we had a duty of care to these students, said the chef.
The students had reportedly booked residential places on Ballymaloe’s 12-week Certificate Course, due to start on January 4, but were left in limbo when a full level 5 lockdown was announced on December 30.
Darina explained that after their 14-day quarantine, the students agreed to enter a ‘Ballymaloe bubble .
