COVID-19 outbreak at The British restaurant in Gatineau

OTTAWA Public health officials in Gatineau are warning of a COVID-19 outbreak at The British Pub & Restaurant in Aylmer. The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l Outaouais confirmed the outbreak at the pub on Rue Principale on Monday. Officials say there have been fewer than five cases among workers, and the risk is considered low. The owner has closed the restaurant temporarily, the CISSS de l’Outaouais said in a news release. Anyone who visited the restaurant between March 5 and 12 should self-monitor for symptoms and call 1-877-644-4545 if they develop them. They can also access the COVID-19 self-assessment tool here.

Popular Minto Skating Centre set to be sold, leaving skating club looking for new home

OTTAWA A popular arena facility is set to be sold, which means one of the oldest skating clubs in the city will be without a home.  A conditional offer has been made to buy the Minto Skating Centre on Lancaster Road, Mask Management confirms. The offer could see the privately-run facility “sold to an entity that would not continue its use as an arena,” says a spokesperson for Mask Management.  This means Minto Skating Club, which has trained out of the facility since it opened in 1987 will need to find a new place to train.  Members were notified Monday in an email from the club’s president Erich Forler.

Folding and flying through the pandemic: 7-year-old captures attention of world-record holder

OTTAWA Mastering a skill usually takes years of experience. Practicing, making mistakes. Enjoying successes and grinding through failures. For Marcus Brun, it s only taken months. The most impressive part? He s seven years old. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic last summer, one of Marcus friends challenged him to make a paper airplane. The first ones I started making were the ones you fold in half, and half…the basic ones, he says. In October, Marcus started to watch YouTube tutorials on how to make designs that are more complicated. His curiosity quickly turned into a passion, sometimes folding planes for up to eight hours a day.
