(WVIR) - The Central Shenandoah Health District announced on Monday night it has expanded COVID-19 vaccination to those who fall into the Phase 1b category. The health department announced it will have closed “point of dispensing” COVID-19 vaccination clinics for those in priority groups of Phase 1b.  According to the Virginia Department of Health, Phase 1b is the second group eligible to receive the vaccine and includes certain groups of essential workers, like first responders and teachers.

(WHSV) — Two skilled-nursing centers in Staunton are among some of the most severely affected nursing homes in Virginia when it comes to COVID-19. Those infections have led to more than 30 deaths between the two facilities. “From the beginning of this pandemic long-term care facilities have been particularly impacted by COVID-19,” Tammie Smith, Public Relations Coordinator for the Virginia Department of Health, said.

(WHSV) Thousands of new coronavirus cases are reported every day. Local hospitals want to ensure the community they are able to help all patients, whether they have COVID-19 or another medical emergency. Hospital officials in the Central Shenandoah Health district said they are constantly working to ensure that there is enough space for all patients in need of care. “We are allocating spaces based on the need that we see and that is almost on a day-to-day basis. We have daily command meetings that look at what our volumes are and what they are projected to be,” said Dr. David Fosnocht with Augusta Health’s emergency department.
