More Bait Station Finds

Included in this month’s Rearview was “Snakes in a Box,” a story about Greg Retlewski (Rose Pest Solutions) and a couple of recent snake encounters he had while checking rodent bait stations. PCT also interviewed Rose’s Karen Gritter, the company’s northernmost service professional, who shared a few of her findings (pictured above).. “My experience has been that this has been the year for baby rabbits,” Gritter said. “I ve had two accounts in which I ve popped the bait stations open and there they sat. Fortunately, they did not appear to have been eating the bait, but I didn t want them to start either.”

Home Developer Sees Benefits of Pest Exclusion

Editor’s note: Deimira Paa Baidoo, a developer of eco-friendly custom homes in Calgary, submitted the following article to PCT that examines the value of offering pest control services that focus primarily on the use of exclusion strategies. As the world becomes more and more concerned about the environment, and pest control companies look for ways to stand out from their competitors, these businesses may want to consider offering pesticide-free solutions as part of their menu of services. In my line of work, I am seeing more and more families switch to custom, “green” homes because they re feeling stressed about their own personal impact on environmental health. When speaking with these families, their concern isn t limited to just energy; it s also about the idea of limiting their use of anything that could have an environmental impact.

Getting Quick Control of German Cockroach Infestations

German cockroaches are often referred to as the most common cockroach in the world. They prefer warm, humid areas, and many times live and breed indoors. Infestations start when females lay their eggs. The females carry an egg capsule that can carry up to 40 eggs and they rapidly reproduce. With multiple German cockroach females in one location, they can populate a home relatively fast without proper attention. Removing German cockroaches is only a part of gaining control. Sanitation and exclusion are vital elements to the process. Inspections will determine the scope of the problem and what the proper treatment methods are but without deep cleaning a home, the infestation may return. Cleaning to remove food and water sources will force German cockroaches to seek those elsewhere.
