Queen s nurse badges
The charity behind the Queen’s Nurse programme has pledged to increase the number of community nurses from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds who apply for and receive the prestigious title.
A new action plan from the Queen’s Nursing Institute includes a target that 20% of applications for the Queen’s Nurse title in 2021 will be from nurses of a BAME background. And 10% of badges awarded will go to BAME nurses.

The promise follows the organisation s first formal race, equality and inclusivity review last summer, which was led by QNI fellow and trustee, Professor Ami David.
Concern had centred on plans to retire the existing SPQs in district nursing, general practice nursing, community children’s nursing, community learning disabilities nursing and community mental health nursing, and replace them with one generic community SPQ.
The NMC has since revised plans and is now proposing to retain the five SPQs but still wants to go ahead with the introduction of a new community SPQ that doesn’t specify the field of practice to accommodate other nursing roles that are not covered by the current SPQs.
