Van Oord will act as the principal contractor for the 550-metre South Breakwater while Scottish-based construction firm Beattie FRC will build the concrete Crown Wall along the length of the North Breakwater. Both structures will provide critical protection for vessels and operations, ultimately protecting vessels berthed in the harbour from the elements and a “one in 300-year” storm. Keith Young, AHEP project director at Aberdeen Harbour board, said: “The construction of the South Breakwater and Crown Wall form a significant part of the final 30 per cent of construction, and I look forward to seeing the structures take shape in the coming months.

Aberdeen Harbour Board has awarded two new contracts for the construction of the South Breakwater and Crown Wall, with a total value of £60 million (USD 83,5 million)

Aberdeen Harbour Board is getting ready for a busy construction season this spring and summer at the South Harbour project site.
In the latest update on the project, the board said that construction of the South Harbour has continued at pace in March, and that the contractors are gearing up for a busy construction season ahead.
As reported, more than 40,000 tonnes of infill material has now been placed behind the caissons on the North Quay, and revetment work has continued on the North and West Quays.
They also added that a total of 16,000 tonnes of rock has been imported from Norway this month that will be used for the rock armour elements of the South Breakwater.
