Toni Standen, from Widnes, allowed her unsuspecting friends to raise funds totalling more than £8,000 so that she could have her dream wedding. In June 2015, the 29-year-old told them that she had been diagnosed with terminal vaginal cancer and provided regular updates on her treatment ‘with such clarity and detail that her condition was never questioned’. She even shaved her head in order to appear as though she was undergoing chemotherapy in pictures posted on social media.
