The 2020-21 annual report for Saskatchewan’s public casino operator showed a $13.4 million net loss. As a result, the corporation was unable to return any money to the government. The loss is a first for a Crown corporation that has been consistently profitable over the past 25 years.

Revenue fell to just $30.9 million in 2020-21, compared to $114.1 million the year before, as money from slots, table games and especially food, beverages and entertainment dried up. Expenses dropped too as SaskGaming temporarily laid off 570 permanent employees but not by nearly enough to make up the difference.
