I am very much looking forward to seeing the films that these talented young people create, and hope it inspires them into a career in film and television.”
As part of the nine-month project, local ESA students will also receive masterclasses and workshops from members of the team at Sky and Sky Studios on documentary research, marketing, PR and distribution, and planning and production.
Each class will develop their skills and help them progress their films.
When it opens in 2022, Sky Studios Elstree will house 13 sound stages, creating 2,000 jobs in the local area. It is expected to attract £3bn of production spend over the first five years of operation alone.

Hollywood director Steven Spielberg also made the Oscar-winning

The report concludes: As well as being generally suitable for employment development, the site is the optimum location to accommodate additional film and studio floorspace. Synergies will be created with the adjacent Sky Studios scheme which cannot be achieved on any other large-scale site in the borough. In overall terms, the site allocation will deliver huge benefits through job creation etc, it will build on the strengths of the TV and film sector in Elstree and Borehamwood and it will allow Hertsmere to capitalise on the expected growth in this sector. The co-location of new TV and film studios will be far more efficient in land use terms and provide a number of benefits in terms of sustainability.
In a letter to the local council, the DIT has said that the proposals “would be warmly welcomed, not at least as Hertsmere has such a rich heritage for film and HETV (High-End TV) production”.
The proposed development, coupled with the neighbouring Sky scheme already being built, will create a film and digital hub to rival anything in the world.

Credit: Bidwells The UK’s largest ever film studios could be built on the outskirts of Borehamwood, it has emerged. Following in the footsteps of Sky Studios Elstree, and joining Elstree Studios and BBC Elstree, the proposed Hertswood Studios would put Borehamwood at the heart of the country’s film and television industry. Consultancy firm Bidwells claim the studios complex would create thousands of new jobs in the area and contribute a billion pounds a year to the economy. Ninety acres of land off Rowley Lane has been eyed up, next door to the approved 32 acre Sky Studios Elstree scheme, with the applicants hopeful that Hertsmere Borough Council will take the scheme forward in its upcoming local plan.
