Crouse-Hinds installed their first electric traffic light in Houston Texas, in 1921. The company installed this traffic light at the intersection of James and State Streets, in 1922.

There are few things that we take for granted as much as electricity. A force so powerful, yet, paradoxically, so prosaic, much like indoor plumbing and running water, it is difficult for most to imagine a world where it does not exist. One could safely argue that in 2021, electricity is as necessary as oxygen to Americans’ daily existence. Without it, society as we know it would cease to function.
