jesse kirsh is following it now from minneapolis this is far from over. reporter: yeah, lester. the snow we re seeing here in the twin cities is part of the same storm that hit california days ago it already swept across multiple states tonight, it s still trekking east reporter: the cross country storm already paralyzing nebraska roads, drivers stranded in whiteout conditions almost two feet of snow in some areas in colorado, semitrucks piling up on treacherous highways this trailer ripped in half among numerous crashes but thankfully no injuries have been reported further south, a tornado ripping through columbia county, arkansas, tearing down power lines and tonight amid all that damage 12 million are still under winter alerts from the midwest to new england because of the same storm that slammed california earlier this week it s kind of wet, sloppy stuff. reporter: snow falling throughout the day in the twin cities
country storm bringing snow, rain, wind even some storms as we go throughout this thursday. on the cold side. look ago the snow falling. 29 million people impacted by winter alerts. that includes portions to the west as well. where you see the pink, that is a winter storm warning. we could see heavy snow in spots bringing down some power lines and causing power outage ands also the chance for heavy rain. this is what looks like on radar. where you soo he that cold side. the blues and whites, that s where the snow is falling. so through minneapolis, also green bay. and then some heavy rain along the cold front. we re seeing the brighter colors, yellows, reds, oranges. that s where we re seeing heavy rain falling. that s going to lift to the north and east as we go throughout this thursday. so into portions of the mid-atlantic, northeast, into new england. that winter storm sliding east. bringing rain for the mid-atlantic and northeast. also areas of snow in new england, great lakes sh t
winter storm watches in the blue. winter storm warning in the pink. we re looking at the potential for two to three feet of snow. so as we go throughout the day, we ll see this kold front moving on shore. it s a strong one. this is going to be our next cross country storm bringing weather across the country over the next several days. soaking rain into central california. that will eventually come down to southern california as well. could see some flash flooding in burn areas. then that front is going to track into the plains. pretty gusty winds as well. here s a look at the rainfall totals. you see the darker colors, oranges, reds, yellows. that s where we see the heaviest rain. along coast, again, excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding as well. really heavy snow. that is great news for skiers. we want to increase that snow pack. rid of the droughts in the areas. that s the highest amount of snow. as we go throughout the rest of today, flash flooding and
temperatures below freezing in chicago. 28 degrees. st. louis, 22 right now. 33 in atlanta. below freezing in charlotte. we re going to see the cold temperatures lingering all day long. jet stream dipping so far to the south. that s allowing the temperatures to be five, 10, even 25 degrees below normal. so just 41 degrees today in pittsburgh. just 19 in bismarck. that s 21 degrees below average. same story tomorrow. we ll keep it chilly all week long. philadelphia just 48 degrees. and that will set the stage in the central plains, the cold will, for snow. we have a cross country storm. so snow and winds and rain. but it will be snow in the central plains. you see the pink. that is a winter storm warning. with he could see six inches of snow in oklahoma. this is what it looks like the cross country storm. we re watching it all week long. also looking for the chance for severe storms in the south. back to you, sam. we went from an approximation of summer to winter and maybe 24 hours. g
