If you’re a bit confused by the headline that appears above these words, you’re likely not alone, so let me explain:
In one of the four sections that make up the Crookston Times’ 2021 Community Connections special edition, you will find profiles in a sort of “Where are they now?” vein of 17 former Times summer interns and student writers/photographers who occupied our newsroom during the school year, not for pay like in the summer but instead for academic credit, through a partnership with Crookston High School.
I wasn’t able to track down every single intern or student writer who’s spent time at the Times, but of the 18 I was able to find, all but one was able to participate in this special edition by answering a series of questions I came up with and also submitting some of their favorite photos. Bergeron of Crookston receives Brink Lawyers UND Law Scholarship

BRINK LAWYERS PA is proud to announce that Brooke Bergeron of Crookston, Minnesota is the winner of the Fall 2021 BRINK LAWYERS UND Law Scholarship. Ms. Bergeron is a first year law student at the UND School of Law and is a member of the Law Women’s Caucus, the Criminal Law Association, the Rural Practice Association, and the Law Students Wellness Association. Ms. Bergeron obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and Political Science in December of 2019 from Minnesota State University Moorhead, graduating with a 4.0 grade point average. While at MSUM she was a member of the honor societies Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science) and Alpha Phi Sigma (Criminal Justice).
Polk County COVID-19 update for April 19

A 66th Polk County resident has died from complications related to the COVID-19 virus, and the Minnesota Department of Health reported in its April 15 COVID update that the person is between the ages of 40 to 44.
The MDH also reports that Wednesday saw a significant jump in COVID-19 cases in Polk County, with 21 new confirmed cases and 4 probable. The MDH’s subsequent daily Situation Updates from Thursday through Monday did not approach the April 15 Polk County numbers, but the number of daily new cases continued to tick up since the State lifted various restrictions in regard to gatherings at restaurants and bars and other public places.
