Arklow Councillor Peir Leonard has called for increased supports for elected representatives to better liaise with their communities amidst the fallout over reported plans to house Ukrainian refugees in her hometown.
Hundreds of concerned Arklow residents took to the streets on Saturday afternoon to demand answers on plans for a disused property which is reported to have been earmarked as refugee centre for Ukrainians.
There have been at least 23 arson attacks with a suspected anti-immigration motivation since 2018. Their frequency has escalated in the last three months
The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth has confirmed to Arklow Municipal District staff that they have received an offer from the owners of a property in Arklow to house international protection applicants.
