Soccer Hosts No 2 North Carolina in Prime Time

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 4 Florida State soccer team (10-1-2) hosts No. 2 North Carolina (12-3) on Thursday, October 20 at 8 PM on the ACC Network. The Seminoles are coming off a 5-1 win over No. 12 Duke on Thursday, October 13. Jenna Nighswonger had a career-high tying three assists and Jody Brown had a career-high tying two goals. FLORIDA STATE VS. NORTH CAROLINA Thursday’s meeting between the Seminoles and the Tar Heels will be the 46th meeting between the two programs. Florida State is 11-29-5 all-time against North Carolina. FSU is 9-5-3 against the Tar Heels in their last 17 meetings. STRONG AGAINST THE TAR HEELS The Noles are a combined 9-5-3 in the last 17 matches of the series between Florida State and North Carolina, dating back to 2011. Florida State has won three of the last five meetings, two wins coming in 2019, including 3-2 in the ACC Championship game and 1-0 in the National Championships game. Cristina Roque Named ACC CO-Defensive Player of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State junior goalkeeper Cristina Roque was named the ACC’s CO-Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after recording a 1-0 shutout victory over No. 2 Virginia on Thursday, October 6. Roque recorded a career-high 10 saves in her 23rd career shutout victor and fourth of the season. With the win, Roque improved to 32-0-8 and is still unbeaten through the first 40 starts of her career. On the season she has a 0.429 Goals Against Average (eighth in the country) and a 0.885 save percentage (eighth in the country.) Roque also has a career 0.51 Goals Against Average, making her the NCAA’s active leader. Career High 10 Saves By Roque Leads The Seminoles to Win Over No 2 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – The No. 3 Florida State soccer team (9-0-2) defeated No. 2 Virginia (10-2-1) behind a career-high 10 saves by Cristina Roque. The Seminoles extended their unbeaten streak to 20 with the win and Roque improved to 32-0-8 in her career. FSU has dominated the last eight games, outscoring its opponents 31-2. FSU has outscored its ACC opponents 16-2 in its first five ACC games. The Seminoles struck quickly against the Cavaliers as Jody Brown found the back of the net for the fourth time this season just 47 seconds into the game. Beata Olsson took possession of the ball about 40 yards out and passed it along to Jenna Nighswonger. Nighswonger’s pass got deflected by a UVA defender and landed at the feet of Brown who was one-on-one with the Virginia keeper. Brown kicked a rocket over the head of the keeper and into the back of the net.
