Deputy calls to criminalise violence in obstetrics By Paula Martins, in News, Crime · 23-07-2021 01:00:00 · 0 Comments
Recently, a petition has been circulating on social media and a draft will be presented to parliament to criminalise obstetric violence in Portugal, a situation that remains in the shadows of the law.
Deputy Cristina Rodrigues (ex-PAN) is already known in the Portuguese media for giving voice to controversial issues and in this case, she brings up a new subject: obstetric violence.
In Portugal, this is a topic where there is still little clarification, with many female voices stating that the problem exists in the country but without sufficient data and discussion around the subject.

Cutting the small print
Parliament has approved a law to increase the size of small print in contracts, preventing them from being less than 2.5 millimetres or font size 11
The law is the result of the projects of the Ecological Party “Os Verdes” (PEV) and Bloco de Esquerda (BE) and makes an amendment to the so-called Legal Regime of the General Contractual Clauses, which applies to contracts, from insurance to communications, to gas and electricity, and from water to gyms.
The PS abstained and the CDS voted against the diploma. The, PSD, BE, PCP, PAN, PEV, Chega, Liberal Initiative and the two non-registered deputies Joacine Katar Moreira (ex-Livre) and Cristina Rodrigues (ex-PAN) voted in favour.
President can only change law on post-mortem insemination after 14 May
The President of the Republic has vetoed the law on post-mortem insemination and can only return to the issue on 14 May.
The vice-president of the Assembly of the Republic António Filipe read the two pages of the message in which Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa explains his doubts about the right of succession and its retroactive application.
The deputies limited themselves to listening to the message given that any decision - whether to confirm or amend the diploma to dispel Marcelo s doubts - can only happen within 15 days or after this period, known as the cooling-off period, i.e. from 14 May.
