it s top of the hour on cnn newsroom. the death toll from hurricane ian has just gone up. it s now 104 lives lost. 100 of those in florida. search teams finding more bodies as they reach some of the hardest hit areas. more than half of those killed were in lee county which includes ft. myers beach. that city is now closed to everyone but search and rescue personnel. the mayor says there is no time line yet for when residents can return. lee county officials coming under some criticism for the timing of their evacuation orders. now dozens of miles inland in western florida in arcadia, river flooding is still causing problems. . this is five days after ian hit. cnn team on the ground says that part of the highway has disappeared under the water. and many people there are trapped. we were on the ground in arcadia, florida. you re hearing from people panicked there. what is the situation? well, allison, we re entering day four now of people not having electricity. so they don t
engineers. fuel trucks. so generators can be gassed up on site. my administration is also providing financial assistance to help families and individuals right away. many families are scrambling to pay bills. right now to fill up their gas tank, to put food on the table. they can register at fema cash assistance for $700 to cover the essentials for a little while. so far nearly 200,000 households across puerto rico received this cash assistance. $700 won t replace what you lost, not even close, but it can help take care of some of the little basics while you catch your breath and get back on your feet. and fema made crisis counsellors available. whether you re a survivor or first responder. if you need help or just someone to talk to, people are here for you. the hotline number is

not under the trunk, the physical trunk of that tree where it could have been a lot worse. how are the families reacting to these eight children that have been injured? well, you know, kid space community, you know, we have some wonderful folks that are involved in the program, and, you know, i think everybody was grateful that with our staff, we train for emergency procedures and of course no one ever expected something like this to happen, but the feedback that i received was very positive from the families, saying they appreciated that, you know, we were methodical in our approaches, putting the safety of the children first and it s heart-breaking, we re asking the community to rally around these kids who are still in the hospital and meet their needs and just do all we can to support them. today, at the museum, we will be opened. we will have some crisis counsellors available. any of the staff need to talk about it or any of the kids who
