With the potential of delivering enough power to energize around 87,500 homes, the administration of United States President Joe Biden shared on Monday about the approval of a major solar energy project in the California desert for the state s public lands.
The latest announcement from the Biden administration came after the U.S. President vowed to expand the development of renewable energy projects on public lands across the country. It is also a way for the Biden administration to fight climate change and create job opportunities for the American people. The Biden administration also wants to cut the emphasis on maximizing fossil fuel extraction.

The US Department of the Interior (DOI) has given the green light to the construction of a utility-scale solar-plus-storage project on public land in California.
The DOI announced on Monday (3 May) that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has given final approval to the Crimson Solar Project, a 350MW solar PV array with a 350MW/1,400MWh energy storage system that will generate power through the Southern California Edison Colorado River Substation.
The project will be owned by renewables company Sonoran West Solar Holdings, a subsidiary of utility-scale developer Recurrent Energy and Canadian Solar. It will be built on 2,500 acres of Federal land in Riverside County, according to an impact statement, and is expected to require an investment of US$500 million. The DOI said in a statement that the Cri
US greenlights $550m solar project in California desert
The plant will be capable of powering nearly 90,000 homes
The US Government has greenlit a massive solar energy project in the California desert.
The $550 million (£396m) ‘Crimson Solar’ project is predicted to cover the electricity needs of 87,500 homes.
Located in an area designated for renewable energy development, the plant will include a 350MW solar PV facility combined with a 350MW energy storage system – both will occupy more than eight million square metres of land.
The construction of the project is also forecast to create an estimated 650 jobs.
The move follows Joe Biden’s goal to expand the development of renewable energy projects to underpin the nation’s goal for carbon-free electricity by 2035.
