Newark officer assaulted after called to report of party on Barnbygate despite covid regulations

Newark officers were alerted to a report of a party taking place despite covid regulations.
They were called to Barnbygate, Newark, at around 10.40pm on Sunday, where an officer was kicked and punched by an occupant. He suffered a thumb injury.
A 37-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. He remains in police custody.

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping said: âI am absolutely appalled these officers have been attacked while simply protecting the public amid coronavirus. The past 12 months have arguably been among the toughest on record and our officers have risen to every challenge, putting themselves at risk to keep this dreadful disease at bay.

Police officers have revealed how they are putting their own families lives at risk by entering large house parties packed with people potentially suffering from Covid.
But very little consideration has been given by revellers for the effect entering these gatherings are having on police officers.
Front-line officers have said they never thought they would be breaking up house parties when they joined the force and would rather spend their time catching criminals.
