Sexual violence advocate service commissioned to support victims

Badges A SUCCESSFUL advocacy service to guide survivors of sexual abuse and violence through the justice system has been recommissioned for at least another three years. The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland has invested almost half a million pounds in an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) service, to support victims across Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Stockton. The all-age service Arch Teesside have been awarded the contract after delivering the service as a sub-contractor of Teesside Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) for the past three years. ISVAs are trained to provide emotional and practical support to survivors of rape, sexual abuse and sexual assault who have reported to the police or are considering reporting to the police.

Acting Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Oldroyd said: “I’m delighted that we’ve joined such a prestigious group of organisations to secure this funding. “In a recent a consultation we conducted, nine in 10 respondents wanted to see more investment in recovery services for children who have suffered exploitation and sexual abuse.

Policing council tax increase receives support

Cleveland Police and Crime Panel unanimously supported an inflation-level increase of 1.99 per cent, which equates to a £5.19 annual increase for Band D properties. This works out at 10p a week. As 80 per cent of properties in Cleveland fall under Council Tax Bands A to C, the majority of residents will pay less than the 10p weekly increase.
