RMT rail union boss Mick Lynch said the proposals by Liz Truss amount to the biggest attack on trade union and civil rights since labour unions were legalised in 1871 .
Mick Lynch, general secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union, said he will seek another six-month strike mandate when the current one finishes.
More than 40,000 workers at Network Rail and 14 train operating companies are set to strike on Wednesday in a dispute led by the RMT over pay, jobs and conditions.
Almost all stations across Scotland and Wales are completely cut off by the rail strike, while there are also no services to Penzance, Bournemouth, Chester or Blackpool.
Train passengers are facing chaos today, with half of the rail network closed and only a fifth of services running due to the biggest strike by rail workers for a generation.
