8 Gems Of New Zealandâs North Island
Apr.4.2021
Being marooned in New Zealand for the past 13 months, Iâve unintentionally become more familiar with the country than many locals. Iâve spent most of my time on the North Island and been blessed to be here at a time when tourism is low. Even Hobbiton had only 40 people when I visited, in contrast to its normal 4,000. Here are a few of my favorite places in New Zealandâs North Island. You may recognize some, but theyâre often overlooked by tourists who have only a week or two to see the entire country.

Taupō and Coromandel have an abundance of activities for visitors and locals to enjoy. Here are some gems in these areas you may not have been to yet or heard about through the grapevine. Summer is the perfect time to check them out.

From $80 helicopter trips to $123 ski plane adventures, some big specials are being offered for Kiwi tourists over the summer break.
There are those of us likely to heed Tourism New Zealand’s calls to do something new this summer. And there are those of us who plan to holiday in places we know are sure bets. The summer holidays roll around once a year after all, and no one wants to wind up somewhere that looks good on paper (and in heavily edited digital images) but in reality is a dump. If you have someone to vouch for a place though, going boldly where you’ve never gone before isn’t such an issue. Which is why we asked the Stuff Travel Neighbourly community to tell us about the summer holiday spots that have kept them coming back for years, if not decades.
