“The Beginner’s Guide to Growing Great Vegetables” by Lorene Edwards Forkner ($19.95, Timber Press): This is a comprehensive guide to gardening that goes well beyond being appropriate for just beginners. As someone who has enjoyed growing plants for more than 30 years, I found it a refreshing overview with an emphasis on nurturing vegetables and herbs in the ground or in containers.
Her expertise is evident here.
Growing region maps are beneficial and descriptions are succinct. Microclimate and phrenology are explained with clarity and sufficient depth.
