Plans for a 147-bedroom hotel in Stretford are due back before Trafford council again. The original proposals for the 197-bedroom hotel on Barton Road had to be redrawn after planners unanimously dismissed them in September 2020 due to the building’s height and scale. Before the application went before Trafford council, Trafford Centre owners Intu wrote to the authority to indicate their concerns about the plans, saying that the ‘mid-range’ hotel chain (either Holiday Inn Express or similar) proposed for the site was not of a high enough standard. Residents of the nearby Circle Court tower block also wrote to make their feelings of strong opposition heard over potential noise, congestion and a shared entrance to the hotel which they believed could cause real issues.

Councillors praised Create Developments for the changes it made to a previously refused scheme and voted unanimously to approve the company’s plans for a 147-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel off Barton Road in Stretford.
Blackpool-based Create submitted scaled-back plans for a seven-storey hotel in December after Trafford Council’s planning committee had turned down a larger iteration of the scheme earlier in the year.
The original proposals mooted a nine-storey, 197-bedroom hotel, but the developer was forced back to the drawing board amid concerns over car parking provision and the scale of the scheme.
Create subsequently slashed the number of rooms by 50 and reduced the number of floors by two. The building’s footprint was also reduced, from 12,500 sq ft to 10,000 sq ft, while the number of parking spaces was increased to 147 from 127.
