A KEIGHLEY-district secondary school has undergone a £2.5 million-plus upgrade. A major roofing and fire safety scheme has been carried out at South Craven School, in Cross Hills. Spearheading the project was MAC Construction Consultants. It completed two phases of work after making successful bids to the Government’s Condition Improvement Fund (CIF). The initiative involved replacing external and internal fire doors and partitions – and the flat roof system – and associated works. Despite a delayed CIF announcement and the challenges posed by the pandemic, the project was successfully delivered on time and to budget. Jon Jones, director and head of the education team at MAC, said: “It’s a great achievement to have generated in excess of £2.5m funding for South Craven School, with a 100 per cent success rate in our CIF bids for them.
A member of the Craven County Board of Education has raised concerns about both the transparency of the school system administration and the number of current vacancies among teachers and other staff.
In a March 25 Facebook post, District 5 Board member Kelli Muse made public a series of text messages between herself and Craven County Schools Superintendent Meghan Doyle. In her texts to Doyle, Muse asks why the Board members do not have access to all district meetings, such as principals’ meetings.
“I would like that setup, please. There are times I would like to sit in. Thanks. Can you let me know when that can be accomplished,” wrote Muse.
