The Crater Creek wildfire, fanned by winds, merged with the Gillanders Creek fire. Together, the two fires grew from an estimated 1,100 hectares to 10,000 hectares.
The Crater Creek fire is located around 18 kilometres southwest of Keremeos, and has been burning since July 22. It’s currently estimated at 10,000 hectares.

BC Wildfire said increased wind led to "rapid and extreme growth" in the fires that have merged. The effort to fight the blaze is hampered by challenging terrain for firefighters.
