we also heard from cheryl sandberg that she was supposed to be on this flight. this is what she wrote. she said i m taking a minute to be thankful and explain what happened. my family, some colleagues and i were originally going to take the asiana flight that just crash handed. we switched to united so we could use mile for my family s tickets. our flights were scheduled to go come in at the same time but we were early and landed 20 minutes before the flight. our friend david is on the flight. we ve been hearing from david on twitter. he is encouraging people not to call him. he said that he is all right. he explains that a lot of the passengers were calm and that it reminded him of 9/11. so that is how traumatic this really was for people on board. we are getting some updates from ems and fire officials saying about 75 trans ports still. we are not hearing any specific information about the injured or possible fatalities. hopefully we ll hear a little
fire flashed through to create that ugly scene that you see there. but right now, the major new thing that we re waiting for is some word, did anybody die in this crash? we know there were injuries. reports of people being trangs ported. but we have no idea how many injures and how serious. that s all vital information that we re still waiting on. the fire department telling us they ve transported 12 patients to area hospitals. they say that san mateo county ems transported 21 patients. that s just according to san mateo and san francisco. so right now doing some quick math. that s 33 roughly 33 transports to area hospitals. we don t know whether those injuries were minor, major, there s so much we don t know. we know this. that at 5:30, there will be a
maintenance facilities and of course, the top crash fire and rescue there because it s been an airport for a major airplane, t.w.a. and hubs there, no question a great decision to go there. megyn: at this point would you assume that they know exactly how many passengers are on board this plane and what the flight plan was and they re in constant communication, you would assume, with the pilot. sure, in an emergency situation the pilot is going to give souls on board, fuel endurance, and they have a whole laundry list of items you have to give to air traffic control in an emergency situation. megyn: do they bring somebody in? i was asking you this earlier. is it just the air traffic controller who would be advising the pilot on this or do they bring in some sort of a flight expert? well, actually, they have time, they could actually be on another line and talking to their maintenance facility, to the company who owns the aircraft. so, they could be talking to maintenance people
come back up. and the plane didn t come back up. it just kind of disappeared behind a little brush line. i didn t know what was happening. we thought it was part of the show at first. people were anticipating for the plane to come back up. the plane never reappears and those in the crowd begin to suspect that something has gone awry. i was so shocked because the crowd, thousands of people were here. you could have heard a pin drop. we have an airplane that went down at the air show. fortunately our crash fire and rescue trucks were rolling before the airplane ever got on the ground. so they were there almost immediately. both husband and wife survive the initial crash. a couple seconds later, smoke started coming out. kyle got out almost
haven t been able to get to the site because of the weather. because those first responders who were on scene did share some observations with us. some of them that you relate i think are very important. there was no post crash fire. i think that contributed to the survivability of the accident for those four survivors. but definitely a lot of challenges. it was very slippery, very wet, muddy. the terrain was very challenging for the responders and the survivors and the people who were trying to evacuate them off the mountain, it was a real challenge for them. i know a lot of work still to do. i heard you say in a prior press conference yesterday, thank the lord that those rescuers were there because they were able to reach them, the volunteers, before the actual rescuers were able to get there. do you have any idea from people who were able to see the scene how is it that four people were able to survive, yet five others lost their lives? were they in different parts of the plane? w
