Richmond Hill City Council on Tuesday approved $67,500 for improvements to J.F. Gregory Park, which is a popular location for events.
The improvements include repairs and updates to the lookout platform, bathroom renovations and the cost of installing surveillance cameras. The money comes from special purposed local option sales tax VII funds.
This was among the consent agenda items discussed at the April 20 workshop and approved unanimously Tuesday night.
Mayor Russ Carpenter said the city will have an in-person Memorial ceremony at 11 a.m. May 31 in J.F. Gregory Park. Also, the city’s annual Independence Day Celebration will be held at 4:30 p.m. July 3 at the park. There will be fireworks, food, inflatables and more with music provided by the Swinging Medallions.

An application asking Richmond Hill to annex and rezone a 1.61 acre residential lot at the intersection of Belfast Keller Road and Cranston Bluff Drive is being withdrawn, the city’s mayor said Tuesday night, “until a later date in the future in order to better determine what traffic improvements are necessary at that location.”
The applicant, Tim Casey, reportedly planned to build a convenience store on the property, which is near the future Richmond Hill High School.
Richmond Hill City Hall will reopen to the public on May 17, having been closed since March 2020 because of the COVID pandemic, as noted in Tuesday’s regular city council meeting by City Clerk Dawnne Greene.
City Hall and all city administrative offices will then maintain regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Greene, adding that face masks and other COVID protocols will be required.
Land rezoning at the intersection of Cranston Bluff Drive and Belfast Keller Road was up for its first reading before city council. The request was from Tim Casey on rezoning of approximately 1.61 acres of land. The land is near the new I-95 exit at Belfast Keller Road.
