we had to get a general fund cut of about 10%. that means that you guys lost 50 hours. you went down to 450. if we are living within our means, that means our office living within our means, but also helping you to live within your namemean spirit i think tht is an effective way to rationally manage their resources that you have and what the policy priorities are. we continue to do that, and hopefully my lawyers are keeping all of you advised about the wherwhere you are at on a fairly regular basis with respect to the budget. that is something that i think it s been an invaluable tool. i have had discussions with some of you, and i will work with you. i do not want to compete you from doing your good work, and we will never do that. supervisor kim: i want to appreciate that the increase looks like it is only about $3.3 million in the next fiscal year. in the report, it said you expected increases from police, fire, and public works, along with the board of supervisors. is tha

billion. let me briefly go over the changes the scheduled budget changes we are proposing. the new irvington tunnel is just over 50% complete. we have encountered a number of challenges with the project. we had to excavate through rock material that was much harder than what was documented in the contract. the work was also reclassified by calosha, and that is where a lot of the cost impact came from. there was also a need to control a significant amount of ground water groundwater seepage, and that is what impact the schedule the most. this commission authorized the general manager to approve schedule extensions of to 400 days, and the schedule extension we are seeking your approval for today includes officially the 400 days as well as an extension of the closeout period to a six-month timeline, which is standard on our projects. the cost increase $4.7 million of the $6.5 million is direct, hard construction costs. the increase is required to be able to provide the pro

[applause] today is not only a great celebration for our bridge but also a time to do some reflection on what it has meant to us. as janet said earlier, we talk about today, what i ve tried to do, making sure we aren t the innovation capital of the world, but in 1937, this bridge was the national symbol of innovation. a great effort behind this bridge. joseph strauss, charles ellis fantastic design and leadership. of course, i have been tried to remember the mayor at that time andrew rossi his leadership as well. when we completed this bridge, it was not without cost, so we have to take a moment for the fantastic efforts. we did lose a few lives in constructing this bridge, so i want to make sure that we honor that fantastic effort during that time. it was that symbol of prosperity, the beauty of our city that was being designed, and it has become and continues t
