Pekin Daily Times With the spring turkey hunting season opening in Illinois this week, Peoria-area sportsmen and women have taken to the area’s fields and forests. And it s a busy time for stores in the area that sell hunting supplies. Merle Keefer, owner of Pekin Bass and Bow, estimated that he has sold about 200 turkey permits this year. “It’s been a pretty typical year,” he added. David Barth, owner of Pekin Gun and Sporting Goods, said that each year, the store sees a significant increase in business about a month before the start of a spring or fall turkey season. This year, he has noticed that guns and ammunition for hunting seem to be in short supply because of an increased demand for self-defense weapons.

Forum set for superintendent finalists – Sheridan Media

(Photo from Sheridan Media files) Three finalists have been selected for the position of superintendent of Sheridan County School District 2, and a community forum in which the public can meet the three is set for next week. The finalists, chosen out of a field of more than 30, according to current District 2 Superintendent Craig Dougherty are Priscilla Hopkins, Scott Stults and Teresa Rensch. Stults is an assistant superintendent for instruction/human resources for District 2. Hopkins is executive director of early education with the Denver, Colorado, public schools, and Rensch is director of education services for Konocti Unified School District in California.
