Illinois turkey hunting 2021: Tips as the spring season opens

With the spring turkey hunting season opening in Illinois this week, Peoria-area sportsmen and women have taken to the area’s fields and forests.
And it's a busy time for stores in the area that sell hunting supplies. Merle Keefer, owner of Pekin Bass and Bow, estimated that he has sold about 200 turkey permits this year.
“It’s been a pretty typical year,” he added.
David Barth, owner of Pekin Gun and Sporting Goods, said that each year, the store sees a significant increase in business about a month before the start of a spring or fall turkey season. This year, he has noticed that guns and ammunition for hunting seem to be in short supply because of an increased demand for self-defense weapons.
