The New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) is pleased to announce the appointment of David Strong as its new CEO. He replaces Annabelle Sheehan, who stepped down from the role in May to return to Australia after three and a half years in the role. .

Strong is a former lieutenant colonel and had a 22-year career in the New Zealand Army. He has co-owned independent Wellington-based production company Craftinc.Films for 11 years; and has written, produced and directed several independent short films, as well as having collaborated on large multi-media theatre productions. In 2015, he was a founding member and chairman of ScreenSafe, an independent industry body established to improve the health and safety practices of the screen sector. Since 2019, Strong has been heading the Reform of Vocational Education (RoVE) at Te Amorangi Mātauranga Matua/Tertiary Education Commission.
