Chicago Public Schools aims to reopen high schools by end of school year, CEO Janice Jackson says

Jackson said she hopes to have high schoolers back in classroom this spring. CPS and CTU were locked in negotiations for months over plans from kindergarten through eighth grade students to return to classrooms. The initial start date of in-person learning was pushed back when teachers refused to return to their classrooms, citing COVID safety concerns and a demand for prioritized vaccination. Students in K through fifth grade return to in-person learning on Monday, March 1. Students in grades six through eight will return to classrooms the next week.

CPS board discusses substitute teacher wages at Monday night meeting

COLUMBIA - Substitute teachers will receive a pay raise for the current school semester, according to a presentation given at Monday night s Columbia Public Schools meeting. 
 According to CPS Superintendent Peter Stiepleman, substitute teachers will receive $85 per day for their first 10 days of service, followed by $95 per day for each day of service after that. 
 This comes after the issue of teacher retention was raised during the meeting, as the decision to return to in-person learning is raising concerns among teachers. 
 Dr Stiepleman also addressed the issue of when teachers will be receiving vaccinations, saying that it s not our turn yet.
