LASD community helps feed families during pandemic

LASD Community Gives Back helps families facing food insecurity.
Every week, former Santa Rita School teacher Trish Mitchell rallies support for the LASD Community Gives Back project, which helps Los Altos School District families grappling with food insecurity.
Led by LASD Board of Trustees member Jessica Speiser and district office employee Jason Carballar, the project has consistently served 40 families per week since May.
“The outpouring of love and support for our own community by our own community has really overwhelmed me,” Mitchell said. “People bring bags and bags of food to my house every day. So every week for about four months, I was taking 40 to 80 bags of groceries to the district office.”

The Los Altos School District reopened campuses and resumed in-person classes today (Jan. 11), despite the teachers’ union asking the district to stay remote.
In the fall, LASD had resumed part-time, in-person classes for students in fifth grade and below. That reopening was paused in December, when the district reverted to being fully remote, due to a high number of staff absences. Students and staff complete a COVID-19 symptom tracker every day, and are required to stay home if they report any possible symptoms.
The district reopened campuses Monday for students in fifth grade and below, as scheduled. Sixth- through eighth-graders are slated to return Jan. 20.
yet, there was confusion from the beginning. you re right, big images, big headlines which people draw conclusions from right away. what does this do to the name of the covington school as well? these are difficult suits to win. i think they knew that going in, the sandman family. i didn t think it would be thrown out, the fact that he is a minor. i think there should be existing protections for minors in the course of how journalists cover them. they did nothing wrong, nothing at all, and said this was an agitator that got in his face. if we cannot protect teenager as a society, then who are we? it s a great point. speaking of protection, if you re at or near antifa, you might need it. a a new newsweek op ed downplays the danger of antifa and its uprising, painting them as a harmless organization o kids. here s the headline, ban antifa,
are they going after the washington post first? well, you know, jeff bezos is the richest guyed in the world and they have a beef with him, the covington school. ainsley: they said specifically because of the newspaper said quote that he accosted phillips. swarming him and intimidating. blocked phillips path refused to allow him to retreat. taunting and indigenous crowd engaged in improper conduct. steve: there is a list of 50 other media figures and celebrities and media outlets and reporters and politicians who may be served with lawsuits. you ve got to figure that they are probably going after the post because it s owned by the guy with the most money in the united states. and obviously, this is getting a lot of attention on this wednesday morning. brian: by the way the people who started the hostility black israelites seem to be getting a total pass if you see some of the things they said to start the baiting against these kids because they happen to be kids and white is inexciew
you need to say these things. i m still going to call things out, stand up for justice and equality. we need to have a conversation at some point that addresses the fact that the punishment doesn t always fit the crime. by that what i mean is, you know, even in the case of the covington school, i guess what i would have wanted was for them to maybe be disciplined in some way by their school and there be a reconciliation. they would apologize for whatever part they played in it. nathan phillips could apologize for whatever part he played and there could be reconciliation. in the current climate we live in, that was naive of me. what happens to people is they don t get i know a lot of people are saying, no, there shouldn t have been any punishment. but for people who thought there should be punishment, in this day and age, that is never going to be the punishment. the punishment is going to be that you are going to have this
