The east London borough posted 2,413 new infection in the seven days to December 15 – an infection rate of 790.6 per 100,000 people. The week before the rate of infection was 364, the equivalent of 1,111 new infections. In Waltham Forest the infection rate is now 635.4 – the nineteenth highest rate in England. The borough posted 1,760 new infections, up from 1,016 the week before (a rate of 366.8). The US president argued in a social media post on Saturday evening that the “cure cannot be worse than the problem itself”.
Trump tweeted a clip from BBC News shortly after the prime minister’s press conference and said: “We don’t want to have lockdowns. The cure cannot be worse than the problem itself!”

He also shared a similar clip from ITV News with the comment: “The entire WORLD is being badly hurt by the China Virus, but if you listen to the Fake News Lamestream Media, and Big Tech, you would think that we are the only one.

Millions of people across London, the south-east of England and Wales have entered a third lockdown as tier 4 restrictions came into force in the two nations amid surging Covid-19 cases.
While Christmas has effectively been cancelled for almost 18 million people in London, south-eastern and eastern England, with households banned from mixing indoors and outdoors with others, the rest of the country faces a much scaled-back festive period.
On Saturday, Boris Johnson and the leaders of Wales and Scotland announced that the previous three households, five days rule was being ripped up and households only able to form bubble for Christmas Day only.
