The Taoiseach said the aim is for 2.5million people to be active in the workforce by 2024.
The Pandemic Unemployment Payment will be closed off to new applicants from July 1.
The Taoiseach said this move was “in recognition of the fact that at that stage, there should be no new job lay-offs directly attributable to public health restrictions”.
