ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Kids may soon be lining up outside of the the UVA Healthâs vaccination center at Seminole Square. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently granted an extension of the authorization to administer the Pfizer vaccine to kids ages 12 to 15.
âI think conceivably it could be as soon as Thursday [May 13]. Iâm not quite certain people are ready to do that, but I think itâs certainly possible,â Dr. Costi Sifri, an epidemiologist at UVA Health, said.
Pharmaceutical major Pfizer will likely seek the US Food and Drug Administration's emergency authorisation to administer its coronavirus vaccine among children between the ages of 2 and 11 in September, the media reported.

Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech on Friday submitted a request to the European drug regulator for emergency approval of its vaccine for use among children aged 12 to 15 years old. In a statement, the pharmaceutical firm said that its request was based on positive results yielded by the BNT162b2. The vaccine, according to Pfizer, demonstrated 100 percent efficacy and robust antibody responses in at least 2,000 adolescents that showed their vaccine to be safe and effective. The companies also plan to submit these data to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as well as the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - In an effort to get as many teens and young kids vaccinated before school starts next fall, Pfizer announced on Wednesday, March 31, that its vaccine is now safe and effective for kids as young as 12 years old and is aiming to bring the age down even farther in the near future.
Health professionals say this could be the green light.
“The virus neutralizing antibody titers, which is probably the closest thing we have to a surrogate for protection, was super high in the vaccinated group,” said Dr. Peter Hotez, co-director of the Center for Vaccine Development at Texas Children’s Hospital. “So, I think it’s likely a green light to move forward, to move down in terms of vaccinating adolescents 12 to 15.”
