let s get down to business. we start in china where a recent surge of covid cases continues to batter the world s second biggest economy. hopes of beijing easing there zero covid stance in recent weeks are fading in the face of a wave of lockdowns, in response to near record daily infections. and it s those closures that are having a much wider global impact, disrupting supply chains and adding to the gloomy economic outlook. a quick look at some of the numbers now. china recorded 29,157 new domestic cases of covid on tuesday. that was just yesterday. with many of the cases found in manufacturing hubs, one bank, nomura, estimates restrictions have hit areas responsible for one fifth of china s gross domestic product. which is why growth is
